PaySimple is a relatively new entry into the merchant account and payment processing industry. Founded in 2005 they are currently based out of Colorado. In addition to their payment processing solutions the core of their business is focused around offering small business owners a full suite of payment management including the ability to bill and track customers integrating with their CRM software.

They are currently rated an A+ by the Better Business Bureau and have been accredited with the BBB since 2008. Importantly their BBB score is up from our initial review which shows a strong commitment on the company’s part to delver the sort of experience that merchants deserve. In earlier reviews we noted that they appeared to employ 3-year contracts with a cancellation fee of $250. However currently the company offers merchants the ability to sign up with a month-to-month agreement with no cancellation fee.

One of the biggest strengths for PaySimple is that the are focused on delivering ease to use solutions for their merchants. They offer a very user friendly interface allowing merchants to quickly keep track and bill their customers. However there are some drawbacks to simplicity, and typically merchants seems to be set to tiered pricing when creating their account. For many merchants this will not pose a large challenge but for merchant processing a larger number of transactions you may end up overpaying compared to an interchange plus set up. One of the biggest items to look out for is that when set to tiered it is extremely important to stay on top of what transactions will be considered “Qualified” (the low rate that merchants are pitched out) and which will downgrade to “NonQualified”.

Before You Sign A Contract!

We recommend that all merchants speak with at least 2 processors before signing their contract. Why?…

First – You should feel comfortable with the sales representative, if you’re feeling pressure on the call or feel as though you are not a focus, it’s unlikely your experience will improve after signing your contract!

Second – Be wary of introductory rates (specifically qualified rates) in the initial pitch – each business is unique and the rates/fees that will actually save your business the most, are only available once the sales representative has learned about your business.

For merchants that have a more traditional brick and mortar type of store where they will be accepting cards in person, there are a number of other providers that we feel offer a better alternative than PaySimple; however for smaller merchants or those that rarely need to accept payment in person and are looking to both accept payments and keep track of their customers PaySimple represents a solid option for their payment processing needs.
