Capital Merchant Solutions has been in the credit card processing industry since 1997, and is based out of Illinois. They are currently ranked A+ by the Better Business Bureau and have a fairly clean record in the online community.

They are one of the largest umbrella ISOs that we have come across as DowCommerce, FreeAuthNet, and Take Cards Today are all under the Capital Merchant Solutions Brand. (the full list of websites is available at the end of this review)

The majority of their merchants refer to receiving monthly statements which parallel very closely with what they expected to see. While their rates and fees may not be the lowest we’ve come across, there is something to be said for getting what you signed up for.

One negative in their portfolio is a three year contract which is standard on all their merchant contracts, as well as a fairly aggressive cancellation/termination fee, if for any reason the merchant should need to cancel their account or decide to switch processors during the first 3 years they are processing. While their track history is fairly strong, we always have to question the need for a specified length contract when the merchant processor is an upstanding company that stands behind their rates and customer service.

Before You Sign A Contract!

We recommend that all merchants speak with at least 2 processors before signing their contract. Why?…

First – You should feel comfortable with the sales representative, if you’re feeling pressure on the call or feel as though you are not a focus, it’s unlikely your experience will improve after signing your contract!

Second – Be wary of introductory rates (specifically qualified rates) in the initial pitch – each business is unique and the rates/fees that will actually save your business the most, are only available once the sales representative has learned about your business.
