BluePay is a financial services company that focuses on offering a variety of mobile and online payment security and processing services to businesses globally. The company was founded in 2002 and is based in Napersville, Illinois outside of Chicago. One quarter of the business is owned by big player Goldman Sachs. Convenient, fast, mobile technology, and quality of security features were a few of the things that sparked interest from online bloggers, review communities, investors and, what landed them on the 2010 Inc. 500 List.

One of the features that highlights BluePay as a front runner, and lands them in our top 5 merchant service providers list, is affordable pricing. Although every client need is different, there is a wide level of customization available for payment processing solutions. They offer both tiered as well as Interchange plus pricing, and for almost all merchants that are going to be processing with them we recommend going with the interchange option.  As with all merchant service providers it is important to understand both the qualified, mid, and non-qualified rates. While the qualified rates are going to be eye catching and very low, it is extremely important to talk with the sales representative about what type of cards and transactions your business will be accepting, and how that will impact which rates your business will actually see.

In terms of transaction fees they are very low compared to industry standard with retail transaction rates as low as 0.95% and, Mail Order Telephone Order (MOTO) rates as low as 1.99%. Deposits are made available within 24 hours, and the added value of 24/7 user support is priceless. Again these rates represent their qualified rates, so be sure to speak with your sales representative to understand what costs you’ll actually be seeing once you start processing.

Before You Sign A Contract!

We recommend that all merchants speak with at least 2 processors before signing their contract. Why?…

First – You should feel comfortable with the sales representative, if you’re feeling pressure on the call or feel as though you are not a focus, it’s unlikely your experience will improve after signing your contract!

Second – Be wary of introductory rates (specifically qualified rates) in the initial pitch – each business is unique and the rates/fees that will actually save your business the most, are only available once the sales representative has learned about your business.

We currently have Cayan listed as our top ranked merchant service provider. However if they do not fit your needs, you can look through our full list of processors and find the one that is right for your business here.

Aside from services offered and pricing, no business decision maker can deny the importance of quality customer service and support. From our research their support staff appears friendly, knowledgeable, quick to respond, and available via phone or through the contact form on their website. According to reviews by their existing customer base BluePay seems to be quick to respond to emails and typically issues are resolved within the same business day depending on how large of a problem it is.

Another nice aspect of their overall business philosophy is a focus on high tech, convenient tools and a website with customer usability in mind. They offer multiple ways to get in touch fast including live chat on their website, phone, and email, and are active in just about all the major social media communities such as Linkedin, and Twitter. BluePay is registered with the Better Business Bureau, and is authenticated by Trustwave, and Truste and certified by McAffee Security (for PCI compliance), and Microsoft.

For small and mid-sized business owners looking for a secure and trust worthy solution to work with BluePay represents a very solid option. They stack up extremely favorably with their competition and should definitely be on the short list of processors that merchants consider before selecting the one that is the best fit for their business.

Buyer BEWARE. They caused a lot of grief for our company. They setup us up and said we were approved, and when I started processing cc they froze account. I see my customers every week for service, I ran the card and it was approved. They saw it on their account and they even called in to say it was a valid charge when they were called. BluePay then refunded their money. They tried to sell me on another service (at a higher rate ohcourse) but why would,I deal with htem after they make me look bad in front of my customers. Sales people are nice to real you in beginning and make things real easy, then after that they are horrible in my opinion. STAY AWAY. I am processing through Braintree and its awesome now. STAY AWAY. Email me if you want more details and copies of their emails. I will from today forward let the whole world know how horrible they are, almost as bad as people say STRIPE is.
