Before we get into our review process on the actual creation of emails and campaigns, it’s important to note that Constant Contact is a standard bearer for getting those emails delivered to prospective clients and customers. Boasting a 97% deliverability rate Constant Contact gets emails where they’re earmarked. Despite the open rates cited by some review processes, getting emails where they need to go and through spam filters is always a plus.
Tracking those delivered emails is a mixed bag. Social media statistics are on point, allowing users to see total shares and page views. However, conversion tracking and email replies are not included. These negatives are not a huge issue when looking at a number of competing services, which offer a consistent mixed bag.
As for the creation of those emails, Constant Contact creates an environment of ease. The revamped interface has usability as its core mantra, meeting and exceeding the pack on a number of levels. A number of templates are available, each customizable. You can create your own as well, though this option is not as easy as advertised.
There are drag and drop features for text and pictures as well as a set of tutorial features for beginning email creators. There are also XHTML and CSS options for those familiar with programming. Either skill set can do well with Constant Contact. Those in the middle should be prepared to use the pre-designed templates, as the gap between beginner and advanced users isn’t as friendly as it could be. That being said, Constant’s campaign tool is a lesson in sophistication
Campaigns in Constant Contact are built with social media in mind. Everything is still set up and reproduced in the email interface. The campaign is successful whether you’re sending an Email, running a Promotion, planning events or growing numbers of social media followers in Facebook and Twitter. Campaign Design aligns itself with traditional marketing principles and mimics your website design. With the ability to track campaigns as they progress, the service, while not revolutionary, is consistently helpful and easy to use. When used properly, and especially if willing to foot the bill, Constant Contact is a top choice.
Pricing is a tricky conversation when it comes to Constant Contact. While there is a free version, any small business worth its salt should not be able to get by on that alone. As with any of it’s competition, you get what you pay for. The options with Constant allow for a number of choices. Know what your business needs and take a close look at the campaign features. Constant could be the answer.
A few items graced our wish list, but on the whole Constant Contact met our needs with options that allow it to scale to most businesses specifications.
