Benchmark Email

Review Summary:

All in all, Benchmark offers the majority of tools and features businesses look for in a marketing service. A few snags keep it from gaining a perfect score, but for your money, Benchmark should be on the list of email services to check out.

Benchmark sets itself apart in a number of ways, making it an excellent choice as an email marketing service. It does lack in a few departments, namely social media integration and importing from third parties, but as a whole, Benchmark brings a competitive package to the table.

Three plans are available, each with a number of different payment styles. The send based and list based plans are divided into three tiers, each at increasing rates. The former limits the number of monthly emails while the latter limits contacts. High volume plans are also available, starting at $399 per month. Choosing the right plan will be dictated by the needs of your particular business.

When it comes to the actual creation of emails, Benchmark is true to its name, offering a top-notch email advertising experience.  Wizards are available to guide users through the creation of emails, with ready-to-use templates for the masses as well as HTML editing options for those with coding experience. Template formats include cards and newsletters, promotions and invitations and even allow for pictures and logos to be easily dragged and dropped. The only negative here is the lack of email list uploads from third parties. To bring lists into the service from Google or Hotmail they must first be uploaded into an Excel file or copied and pasted.

Reporting is a very big plus for Benchmark. While the service does not allow conversion tracking, it does integrate with Google Analytics to bridge the gap rather nicely. Reporting on the whole is fantastic with Benchmark. Clicks and Opens are followed through the tracking dashboard while the statistics dashboard shows active subscribers on a map, as well as link clicks and opened and forwarded emails. Both the traffic and reporting sections provide graphs and summaries on a number of different tables of data.

Social media isn’t completely lacking, but it doesn’t offer the depth of connection seen in competing services. Facebook and Twitter connection is available and each can be viewed in the reporting dashboard to see likes, wall posts, and tweets.  The available tools are great, but those businesses looking for more integration with a wider array of social media platforms will do well to investigate other options.

Customer support with Benchmark shines. Live support is available via phone and chat and a number of other mediums of support are available including email and a wide range of video tutorials. High marks here for availability with reliable 24-hour support and some weekend availability, though not as reliable as is generally expected in the 24/7 world of web based customer service. It does well to note that there are email marketing services with much more limited support.

All in all, Benchmark offers the majority of tools and features businesses look for in a marketing service. A few snags keep it from gaining a perfect score, but for your money, Benchmark should be on the list of email services to check out.
